IU1010 – “The impacts of slums”

What are slums? They are the homes of the poor and their families, and provide the minimum shelter to the people. It has been noticed that, slums are mostly found on the outskirts of all big towns. This was the position when they started coming up but now, we find slums right in the hearts of towns and specially the big towns.

Through the community-led projects that Homeless International supports, slum dwellers have a say in the issues that matter to them and receive support to find lasting solutions.

We found may issue that women and girls often bear the burnt of problems associated with living in slums.  Women and girls are burdened with fetching and carrying water over long distances, and caring for sick family members – leaving them little time for education or to make a living.

HOMELESS INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT APPROACH:  Women living in slums play a leading role in Homeless International’s projects.  They are decision makers, project leaders and community activists.  Women are actively involved in designing houses and the layout of their communities.  Through our projects they benefit from improved hygiene, have more time for job and education opportunities, and become valued members of their communities.

And  Many children living in slums are denied the chance to go to school.  Social and cultural barriers deny slum dwellers the opportunity to complete their basic education.  Many never go to school at all and few complete primary education.  Female literacy rates in slums are 50% – compared to an overall rate of 94%.

HOMELESS INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS helps by improving living conditions in slums, homeless international’s projects

reduce the time burden on women and girls, enabling them to attend school.

Like many impacts have been done by homeless international projects such as Health and child mortalityLivelihoods ,Finance ,Political exclusion to help the peoples in slum..

IU1010 – A second life(kasadinda rasa)

Waste has existed since the beginning of time. Depletion of resources, growing demand for secondary raw material, increasing production of waste. with the development of cities, industrialisation, and consumption of large amount of waste.

The issue is how to collect it? where to store it?

Garbage isn’t a very nice thing to have around. That’s why we make sure to put our garbage in the trash.

But do we ever think what happens to garbage after we throw it away?

Garbage trucks take our trash to landfills, where it is buried under layer of soil. But just because you can’t see your trash anymore doesn’t mean that it disappears. After a long time some kinds of trash will decompose but this can take many years.

For example, a banana peel can break down in less than a month, but a plastic pop bottle takes much longer.

How long this plastic pop bottle to decompose after we throw it away?

A continuing rise in the rate of waste production is no longer acceptable – hazardous waste affects the health of millions of people and poisons large areas of our planet. in many places people live surrounded by garbage and landfills. it is essential that governments and corportions face up to technologies that eliminate waste.

ok then what we can do of keeping this waste material?

  • Can it be reused?
  • Can it be recycled?

Example plastic paper or cover can be reused or we can use by making crafts

Upcycled Turquoise Blue Fantasy Flower Made of Plastic Water Bottles

This is an upcycled turquoise blue fantasy flower made of plastic water

  • Recycling of plastic

Recycled plastics can be made into many products such as garments, flower pots, wigs and zips.

By collecting all the waste material and reusing it can reduce the garbages in the city.

IU1010 – Educating The Girls

               “EDUCATE A MAN,YOU EDUCATE ONE PERSON,EDUCATE A WOMAN,YOU EDUCATE A COMPLETE FAMILY

LIFE CAN BE CHALLENGING WHEN YOU ARE A GIRL CHILD IN INDIA.

In ancient time girls education bounded by social custom, girl children in India were either not provided with education at all, forced to drop out of school and help at home or married young to ease the financial burden on the family.Reports estimate that more than 50 percent of girls in india fail to enroll in school.

But today girls education is like sowing the seed which gives rise to green and full grown family plant.

Education for a girl child means making the next generation well educated, for  for the society and for the country as whole.

THE PRESENT DAY GIRL IS THE MOTHER OF TOMORROW.

GIVE ME GOOD MOTHERS AND I WILL GIVE YOU A GREAT NATION”

                                                                                                                    ~Napoleon

So to educate the girl the various awakening programmes launched by the government for encouraging the girls education . Now the important of educating the girls is being felt. Several other policies, like 30% reservation to women candidates in services, enhanced subsidy to girls entrepreneurs, various self employment schemes launched for the benefits of women like Women Entrepreneur Development Programme, and directing the parents to get their daughters educated.

IU1010 – “Green dream Save bangalore”

BANGALORE is the state of karnataka and one of the most attractive modern cities in india

When we think of Bangalore the image that comes to mind is that bangalore is an fastest growing city among the cities in india and is rapidly changing city both for good and worst .

Bangalore was called as GARDEN CITY .But now Karnataka’s capital is struggling to avoid being labelled a ‘garbage city’ as it battles to deal with growing mountains of daily waste. And bangalore’s weather is also changing fast. Bangalore is no more pleasant as it was earlier. If trees chopped off rapidly.

Bangalore has lost around 50,000 trees in recent year to infrastructure development.

so What do we think?is bangalore is losing all its greenery. Can we save it?

YES,There are many Non Governmental Organizations concentrating on the development environment in bangalore.

To Bring Bangalore Back to Its original Green.

Through GREEN DREAM rotary club they have planted 25001 trees in the last 12 months.

One cannot blame just the government and politicians for the situation. We citizens too are responsible for the amount of garbage, e-waste we generate.

Being an citizen of bangalore we should also take care of our city.
